Jillian’s November 1 Post: A Traveler’s Eye, Part 2
Thank you for your interest in last month’s post, "A Traveler’s Eye." Here are a few more tips that can apply whether you are traveling with a point-and-shoot camera or large format equipment. They inspire me to see better in my journeys, and experience the people and places I encounter more deeply.
In "Apogee," Photographer Andy Long says, "Every time I head out to photograph, I try to become part of the area where I am…Taking the time to become part of the area where you are allows you to soak it in and put more feeling into your work."
In The Zen of Seeing. Frederick Franck says, "See until you become that thing."
Finally, photographer John Hendrickson offers in Listening to Nature:
"When I am out in nature – walking, looking and sensing for a photograph—I usually begin with a 'tuning in' process. Where there is water, I might touch it, splash my face and arms, or even jump in. I sometimes pick up leaves and crinkle them, smell their fragrance and rub them over my skin. Often I will sit, stretching, watching and relaxing for up to an hour before I begin to take photographs."
How can you see anew with A Traveler’s Eye?
