Jillian’s September Post: Book Group Brainstorms
Last month a dynamic book group in Tucson, Arizona invited me to talk with their members. They had read Change Your Life Through Travel the previous month and had questions they wanted to ask and ideas they wanted to share.
The evening was such fun, I wanted to share a couple of their suggestions that night, and hope they may also spark your own.
*Several women seized upon Change Your Life Through Travel’s tip to create “Mystery Dates” in your own hometown. They began brainstorming ideas they could do as a group, or alone: Visit an Ethiopian or other new ethnic restaurant they had not tried. Attend a Native American celebration during the Easter holiday. Shop at a market in a part of town they typically don’t explore and see imports from around the world. Attend a local theater’s monthly screening of shorts made by young filmmakers from the community.
*One participant with a long daily commute most connected with the strategies for cultivating a “travel state of mind” back home. Now she says she rolls down her windows, feels the wind in her hair, plays her music loud, and observes what she’s passing like she would on vacation. She says, “It’s completely changed my commute.”
How can you continue to travel without ever leaving your hometown?
