Jillian’s February 1 Post: Our New Year Continues

As February brings Valentine’s Day in our year of richer, fuller, more adventurous living, how about devoting the month to “Feel Sexy” -- whether you have a partner or not?

Throw yourself wholeheartedly into an interest. Maybe it’s something that has always intrigued you but you’ve never explored. Studies have even proven that couples in long-term relationships can rekindle excitement in their relationship by trying challenging or new hobbies together. Follow that which you’ve always been curious about. Interest often provides a clue to passion, and pursuing it might enliven you in ways you have never imagined.

Have you ever found yourself attracted to someone who is not at all “classically” beautiful or handsome but is wildly attractive? Years ago I knew an academic whose dear friend described him as “one of the homeliest men I’ve ever met.” Yet the professor swarmed with admirers, male and female, of various ages, because he was so passionate about his subject. His ebullience became a beacon for others.

Many women have described other ways they have found to strengthen their ease and presence within their bodies. For some it is yoga, hiking, even a rigorous game of tennis. For me, an ideal hobby also provides travel opportunities. Women I spoke with have traveled to Japan, Italy and Mexico on yoga retreats, learning about the local culture as they experienced a favorite pastime.

Feeling sexy is like using a muscle. If we don’t use it, it’ll wither. Your sensuality offers a way to feel more centered, joyful, powerful. Let’s admire it, exercise it: flex it!
